What is Dot What?
Did you ever receive a file from a friend or from an internet download and wonder how to access it? Now-a-days, many files have some sort of 3 digit extension at the end of the name (ie. sit, hqx, bin), rendering it very difficult to determine the correct application to associate with them.
Currently there are thousands of applications available for most systems, with more constantly on the way, each with its own corresponding file extension. How can you possibly remember all of these file extensions?
Enter Dot What?... Simply launch Dot What?, type in the questionable file extension, and instantly be presented with its description, recommended application to open it with, and even a corresponding web site for each application!
Dot What? currently has a database of over 1,500 file extensions and is constantly updated by No-U-Turn Software. These updates will be available to registered users at no additiontal cost. If you have suggestions for file extensions, please email us.
A Carbonated (Mac OS X) version of Dot What? will be released closer to the release of OS X. Registered users will be entitled to this version for free. Dot What? will be even more pratical when Mac OS X is released. Every file in OS X will require a file extension. Are you going to be able to remember what they all mean?
Paying for Dot What?
Dot What? costs US $15. This cost is a factor of the labor involved in creating the program itself, and for the research required in order to create the file extension database. Once registered, you are entitled to any file extension updates without any additional cost. You will be informed via email when the updates become available.
After 5 uses, Dot What? will occasionally display a registration reminder dialog reminding you to register the program, if you have not already done so.
There are several ways to register. The easiest is from the program itself. Just choose Purchase Dot What? from the Purchase menu. When you do, the registration web page will launch. Once paid, you will immediately receive a serial number to unlock Dot What?.
Once you register, the reminder dialogs will never show again.
If you choose not to register online, you can register by normal snail-mail. Once we receive your check/cash, we will send you a serial number to unlock Dot What?. Please be advised using this method will delay you receiving your serial number. We will do everything without our power to hurry the transaction through once payment has been received, however, we cannot hurry the postal system;)

Distribution
Dot What? may be distributed in magazines, CDs, user groups, etc., as long as the help texts and read me is included. Please don't distribute it in parts. You are not required to ask No-U-Turn for permission to include the program in your distribution, but it is appreciated if you advise us that you have. We would also appreciate it if you would email/fax us a copy of the media we were published in. Fax #: 1-888-866-4709.
Please do not modify the program in any way, a lot of work has gone into it and it would be a shame to see it hacked.
